Ok ok. If you have never seen this film (or read the book) please rent this movie. It really doesn't matter if you are an old fart or a dumb-as-dirt teenager, take the time to watch this film. Watch it HARD. Pay attention. If you give yourself over to this work, you will be changed, and for the better.
To Kill a Mockingbird is a great movie and book. Before you watch this movie, you must read the book! This movie expects that you read the book so it doesn't introduce some characters like Aunt Alexandra. The movie didn't show has much as the book explains. Most of the minor details in the book were cut from the movie and the major plots of Boo Radley and Tom Robinson were the center of the movie. Gregory Peck talks exactly how the book describes Atticus. Most of the other actors and actresses did great. I have never seen Robert Duvall has young and creepy before. Overall, the movie is great, but the trial almost made me fall asleep. Remember, read the book before watching the movie!!
Five stars for the movie, two stars for the DVD.
One of the greatest films ever made, based on one of the most engaging books ever written. But beware - the DVD shipped to me was not anamorphic, and it doesn't look good on my 16 x 9 HDTV. I'm tempted to either buy the newer anamorphic release, or wait for it to come out on Blu-ray.
I think this movie stays relatively close to the original story. Peck is the perfect choice for this role and he does his usual classic job. If you've never read the book, you shouldn't definitely see this movie soon.
