This is the film that made M. Night famous. The movie has the flavor of a Hitchcock or Rod Serling undertaking. It is one of the best movies in this genre that I have seen in the past ten years. The script is well done. The acting fantastic. This is clearly Bruce Willis's best effort. He anchors the story and makes the whole concept of "seeing dead people" believable. Better in my mind are some of the questions that are posed about what we choose to leave behind in this life. I especially liked the fact that Willis's character was not ready to go until he made things better for one child who needed it. It does give you pause to consider what is important...

SyfyFreak:

Malcom Crowe [Bruce Willis] is a child Psychologist who has returned home after receiving an award. There he encounters an enraged former patient Vincent who is so dissatisfied with his former Therapist. Vincent shoots him in the stomach and then kills himself. Fast Forward the movie, not you it fast forwards itself, to his encounter with a young boy who thinks he talks to dead spirit. The ensuing mysterious, eerie and intriguing story of the interaction between Psychologist and child patient explore his presumed ability to communicate with the dead. Great movie with a twist at the end that caught me completely off balance. 10-16-08

What can I say that other reviewers haven't already said about this movie? I went to see this one with my wife when it came out in the theater. There are so many twists in this movie you will get a kink in your neck from them all. My wife said she knew the one twist before the movie was half over. But it took me longer to figure it out. This is a top dvd A list.

Joel Haley Osment in The Sixth Sense delivers a fine performance as a troubled boy who seems unreachable by his mother and psychologist (also played understatedly by Bruce Willis), even though he seems to be doing the best he can, given his secret torment. Willis eventually wins enough trust for Osment to divulge his harrowing and chilling secret. ("I see dead people" has been schmaltzed in enough comedy sketches that I can reveal that much.) The whole movie for me has an evident accord with the truth and a motion forward toward the truth, which is ultimately revealed in a plot twist that caught me by surprise. I recall the most stunning thing about "The Sixth Sense" was a remarkable twist about three-quarters of the way through the film. This particular twist really shocked a lot of moviegoers. It was a surprise that thrilled and remains the most talked about element of "The Sixth Sense". It was amazing at the time how well guarded this twist was. The vast majority of those who saw the film kept the twist a secret, not spoiling it for others who had not yet watched it. As a huge fan of the "Twilight Zone", I appreciate more than most, the art of the "twist". The surprise, that "holy S**t!!" moment it gives you. That moment is captured within the run time of "The Sixth Sense". In fact, not just once, but at least twice. There is also a moment when we discover the reason behind the death of a little girl and the advancing sickness of her sister, it's enough to make you sick. This feeling of repulsion is much greater than any ghost related fright in the movie. There is also some fine acting by Haley Joel Osment and Bruce Willis. Osment, in particular, does an amazing job relaying so much emotion through his facial expressions and gestures. Willis is a low-key wonder, also. It is great to see him play a non-action film character like this. Most movie fans will tell you that this is the much-maligned M. Night Shyamalan's best film. It's really hard to argue that belief because "The Sixth Sense" is so good. I really appreciate all of his first three movies, which include "Unbreakable" and "Signs". All of them employ terrific moments of quiet emotion and build up the characters, endearing them to the viewer. And yes, all of these movies include the "twist", that remarkable treasure so missing in today's cinema.

If you've never seen this film and somehow don't know the plot twisted ending, sit down, watch it, get "in" on the ending,, then watch it at least one more time. It's truly like watching two different films. Willis and Osment are terrific in a tale that will creep the pants off you!

Haley Joel Osment always impresses me, I like almost everything Bruce Willis does, and my friends and family were kind enough not to reveal the twist (since I was apparently the last person in America to watch this). Amazing film, just amazing.

Danny Combs:

M. Night Shyamalan is awesome. I saw this movie alone in the theater and it practically made me scared to drive home. Even knowing in advance there was some surprise ending, and looking for it, I never saw it coming. Haley Jo Osment was a surprising talent for such a young actor. If you like this one you have to see Unbreakable too.

Shades of grey:

Stars Bruce Willis. I found this movie one captivating ghost story. I guess it's technically horror but while it has its chills, this movie is not out to scare you like The Haunting or The Blair Witch Project. I guess this movie is more a mystery/suspense and like a good mystery it has a surprise twist at the end. After watching this movie and its surprising revelation you find you have to watch it again. They did a good job.

Not many movies can keep me guessing..'whodunnit" or "what IS the mystery". Unfortunately, I usually guess well before the first half of the movie. I got this only 5 minutes before the secret was revealed. It was intriguing. I also liked the colours and other minor fx that signalled certain events were about to/ or were just occurring. Love Bruce Willis and Osmont did a great , CREEPY, job!!! I see dead people will be a "forever catchphrase" Shyamalan's best.

reigners:

Before I saw this movie, many people raved about how different it was and how the "twist" was so unpredictable. About 10 minutes into the movie, I had already figured out what that "twist" was, but didn't realize that that was IT. So I was left extremely disappointed by the ending. In my opinion, this movie was entirely too obvious and left nothing to the imagination. If you're looking for a movie with a good unpredictable twist, try "The Usual Suspects".

DG 1003208:

While the movie is highly entertaining, keeping it "real" while leading one down the road of strange happenings. But I am was quite upset by the layout of the DVD, which forced me through ads before getting to the main screen.
