JB Seriously 55:

A paced film of the story of a high school shooting and the life on one student who was there. Evan Rachel Wood plays the student, and Uma Thurman plays here 15 years later. It took a while before I realized what was really happening, so be careful in reading other reviews that are spoilers. The scenery was extrordinary. Without making the story line obvious, which would have defeated the purpose of the film, stay with it until the end for a punch line that was slow in coming, but has a great impact. (1/10/09)

It is nearly impossible to write a review without giving away the plot, but this viewer will try. A beautiful film about a tragedy and its aftermath. This viewer recommends viewing on DVD so that you get and watch the special features. The film left many questions, most of which were answered in the extras. Uma Thurman as the elder Diana and Evan Rachel Wood as the teen Diana were entirely believable as two versions of the same person. Eva Amurri was totally believable as Diana's best friend, Maureen, the good little girl opposite Diana's wild child. Gabrielle Brennan played Diana's daughter Emma and was a pretty little thing without being too cutsie. Powerful emotions are unleashed and choices are made that will haunt even the most seasoned viewer. A timely tale of senseless violence and its long-lasting effect on those who are touched by it.

GoodTimeCharley:

This is a serviceable emo-thriller. Some have criticized it as Lifetime TV-caliber. I think it's a cut above that. But twist endings just aren't what they once were. As avid movie-viewers and readers, we've seen and read too much. It takes a lot to surprise us these days. Thurman is ethereal and lovely. 2.75 stars.

A thought-provoking dramatic thriller. The 15th anniversary of a tragic high school shooting approaches, Diana flashes back to a time when she (as a teenager) and best friend (Maureen), dreamed of leaving their small town. Diana wonders (as she reflects back) if she can live with the choice she made. The scenes of the high school massacre are shockingly realistic without being terribly graphic. This film is not for everyone. It has a deliberately slow pace. What the movie is about is Diana's choice and how it changed everything. Im not going to give it away now. It is sad subject (when someone is involved in a life or death situation). Sometimes (even if you live) you have to live with it the rest of your life. 02-17-09

demonduck:

While the movie doesn't pull any punches in getting to the twist in its theme, I imagine you'll still feel somewhat cheated by the devices that the script uses in doing so. The movie attempts to be profound but in a way that abuses the storyteller trust that is expected by the audience and even goes so far as to ellude its own theme, if that is possible. You'll spend too much time sorting out the story after its big reveal and lose the theme in the process. Great potential in this movie but it was attempting to be more clever than what was good for it.

Imani:

This movie had all the making of an excellent poignant tale...but completely (to me) missed the mark. The photography was beautiful, the acting sublime (even Evan Racheal as she most always over-acts), I believe it was just the story line that sort of obliterated the movie. It wanted to be ...TOO..deep instead of just letting it unfold itsself..maybe next time mr. Perelman..
