After reading some of the other reviews, things have become a little more clear: I couldn't figure out why Katherine Hepburn seemed to have tears in her eyes throughout this movie! Now I know! I knew this was Tracy's last movie, but I didn't know that he died ten days after shooting. No disrespect intended, but his closing monologue was eternal and much better suited, as mentioned by others, to the stage. I'm sure I'll get booed for this, but the recent "Guess Who" is a nice companion piece and very enjoyable.

It actually gives me shivers when Joanna's father asks Sidney Poitier what sort of life he expects his children to have with the obstacles they'll face, and Sidney says something like, "Well, Joanna thinks they'll be president, but I'm not so optimistic. I'd settle for Secretary of State." That seemed so impossibly out of reach at the time, but look who has come to the White House! And we've had Secretaries of State of color too. The only thing really bad about this movie is how annoying Joanna is. In real life, this important doctor guy would've run for his life from the intense commitment Joanna wants, especially because she's so inappropriate and pushy! But oh well. I still like the movie.
