[spoiler] The story of the production is almost as interesting as that of Dian Fossey. The movie was optioned before she was killed, but it was decided to go on with it to honor her memory and her work. Sigourney Weaver and the crew shot in the Rwandan wilderness where Fossey had worked. No helicopters are allowed into the park, so a supply line of porters had to be maintained to support the production. Weaver had to bond with and learn the behavior of the gorillas, method acting at it's finest. A well told story about a great anthropologist.

Dian Fossey climbs up this mountain in the Congo and studies gorillas - or rather, dudes dressed in gorilla costumes. Gorillas in the Mist was more about Dian Fossey than about gorillas.
