This was a very painful movie to watch in many ways. It is only rated PG-13, yet I was very embarrassed watching it with my nearly 13 year old son. Much of the so-called humor centered around male appendage size and the noises bodily funcitons make.
I am a fan of Jack Nicholson and John Turturro and had some expectations that this movie would be watchable. It wasn't for me although my son and husband did finish watching it slightly humorous, based on the peals of laughter coming from the family room.
I gave this 3 stars because the premise was interesting and I thought the idea of Nicholson and Sandler would be funny. It was just ok for me. Maybe with a better script or a better director this could have been really good. The rest of cast was throw away and the jokes got stale really quick. Funniest scene was Sandler confronting a long lost bully at a monastery, but that was only about 10 minutes. Not bad but there are certainly better Sandler movies out there.
This movie definitely had its moments. However, even after finding out the twist in the end, I still found this movie to be too maddening. I realize there were scenes where the director was striving to make you uncomforatble but those parts just made me mad; real mad. It took away from my enjoyment of the movie. I think this movie deserves 3.5 stars because it's good, just not good enough to say I "really" liked it.
I tried to like this one. Jack Nicholson is one of my favorite actors, and I've liked a couple of Sandler's movies. The pairing didn't work for me. Sanders is doing his angry-guy schtick again, and Nicholson is just, well, weird. At times this one moves painfully slow and ends predictably. Take a pass on this one.
Better than I imagined it to be. Not really a big fan of either Sandler or Nicholson. Still, they worked well together here. A couple of real laughs and quite a few smirks. The presence of the beautiful and talented Tomei definitely helped make it more palatable. Worth a look.
As much as I don't like most of Adam Sandler's roles, I found this one particularly sympathetic because Jack Nicholson's character was a total @$$hole. Sandler portrays a nice guy abused by cruel people, but instead of pointing out that he's being harassed, the film tries to set it up that there's something wrong with Sandler's character that needs repair. Enter Nicholson, who then turns Sandler's innocent life into hell, training him to be a jackass in order to defend himself. Yeah, the film is funny, but the message would only appeal to mean people.
This is not one of Sandler's better films. I loved Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, and I was one of the few that liked Punch Drunk Love, but this movie was forced. The humor was uninspired and repetitive. The only high point was Marisa Tomei.
Jack Nicholson is the only reason I didn't give "Anger Management" one star. It's always fun to watch Jack chew the scenery, and he doesn't disappoint here. But the script is terrible, and Sandler simply proves that he is nowhere near Nicholson's league in the acting department. The flick has some minor chuckles, all involving the rather crude and cruel style I've come to expect from Sandler, but you won't miss anything by passing on this movie.
Dear Adam Sandler,
Please make a different movie. You are the underdog and love your grandma.
Really, we get it.
Thanks.
Despite the remarks of some, i thought anger management was hillarious. Adam and Jack work great together and this is definitely Sandler best work yet but i have to agree that Jack stole the show. A MUST SEE!
